When preparing for natural disasters in 2011 that hit the State of Louisiana, the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security knows they can rely on the EnGenius Technologies DuraFon to help keep the citizens of the Pelican State safe.
Last year the Office of Homeland Security used the EnGenius DuraFon products for the Mardi Gras and Hurricane Gustav. In preparation for the 2011 Mardi Gras event and any natural disasters such as hurricanes, Homeland Security plans to use the DuraFon products again. They have three self-contained trailers to use at parishes that do not have electricity or internet connection. The Office also designed these trailer units to assist with evacuation of any special needs patients at the New Orleans airport.
The innovative DuraFon long range, industrial cordless phone system can be used up to 12 floors in a building, throughout a 250,000 square-foot warehouse or even covering up to 3,000 acres on a farm or ranch. It has also been tested to withstand six foot drops, 54 times, directly on to concrete floors making it one of the most durable phones on the market.
“DuraFon provides us with rapid and immediate communications in the event of a natural disaster or other security issue,” said Jay Lockwood, Tactical Systems Branch Manager for the State of Louisiana Department of Homeland Security. “In 20 minutes or less we can be connected with reliable phone service.”
The Homeland Security department used the phone system last year during Mardi Gras to directly communicate with first responders out in the field. This allowed for constant, flawless communication between both teams. The Department has indicated the DuraFons will be put to the same use in this year's Mardi Gras event. The DuraFon really came in handy during Hurricane Gustav. At the height of the hurricane, the department deployed a number of mobile trailers in neighborhoods and was instantly able to communicate with emergency crews and deliver critically needed recovery services. Homeland Security will use these DuraFon trailers in any future natural disasters to ensure communication continues flawlessly.
“Sometimes during natural disasters, the radios are unable to provide reliable service. With the DuraFon, anywhere we can hit a satellite, we have telephone service,” Lockwood said. “The DuraFon truly provides us with another means of communication beyond radios.” Homeland Security is happy they have the DuraFon to ensure all communication necessities are taken care of during 2011 and the future years to come.
Along with reliability and durability, the DuraFon from EnGenius Technologies provides critical communications services in the time of need. With the ability to use the DuraFon as a standard telephone, it also offers handy call features, push-to-talk communications services, programmable PBX functions and all without monthly bills, per minute charges or annual contracts like cellular phones.
“Whenever you need reliable phone service for your on-site business location, without all of the expensive ongoing costs of a cellular phone, DuraFon is the perfect solution,” said Doug Bowersox, Product Manager, EnGenius Technologies. “The state-of-the-art DuraFon can provide critical communications services for businesses of all sizes.”
