EnGenius Cloud Provides State-of-the-Art, High-Density Arena WiFi Ahead of Davis Cup Finals in Spain - Madrid, Spain

Madrid, Spain was one of three cities selected to host the 2021 Davis Cup, the premier international event in men’s tennis. Organized by Kosmos Tennis and sponsored by Rakuten, the competition included 18 international teams who converged on the designated sports venues in Madrid as well as Innsbruck, Austria and Turin, Italy.



The Need

Built to boost Madrid’s 2012 Olympic bid, Madrid Arena has a max capacity of 12,000 spectators and an area of almost 136,000 square feet. The stadium was faced with hosting hundreds of journalists for the Davis Cup as well as thousands of spectators, officials, players, staff, and security guards. The high-density environment made the Davis Cup an event in need of reliable, seamless arena WiFi across a massive complex of offices, press rooms, locker rooms, hospitality zones, training facilities, and restaurants.

It was critical that organizers and staff be able to communicate quickly and effectively and that members of the media be able to provide up-to-the-minute coverage of events in real time.

The Solution

After exploring their options, event coordinators settled on the EnGenius Cloud network management solution. Local companies shouldered the installation. Carlos Sánchez Irle of X-Net supplied the equipment, and Parson Projects completed the deployment.

Final deployment throughout the Madrid Arena Stadium consisted of the following pre-configured access points and switches:

  • • 33 EnGenius Cloud ECW230 4×4 11ax (Wi-Fi 6) with 2.5 GbE Ethernet indoor access points
  • • 15 EnGenius Cloud ECW260 2×2 11ax (Wi-Fi 6) outdoor access points
  • • 12 EnGenius Cloud ECS2512FP 240W switches
  • • 9 EnGenius Cloud ECS1528P 410W 4x SFP+ switches
  • All devices were managed from the license-free Cloud platform. The ECW230, with its 2.5 GHz Ethernet port, was able to support multi-user uplink and downlink of MU-MIMO for optimal signal and reception as well as stronger, steadier, and more efficient wireless connection.







    The Result

    EnGenius Cloud’s quick installation and configuration provided staff, players, and guests with reliable performance, predictive analysis, and real-time insights. The solution allowed admins to visualize the network under a single pane of glass. The Cloud To-Go mobile app also gave admins the freedom to monitor and manage the network on-site or remotely, providing deep dive analytics into each wired and wireless connected device.

    One Cloud feature of particular importance was the ability to manage bandwidth across the network depending on traffic requirements in different parts of the stadium. The IT team was able to reallocate bandwidth in heavy-use areas to ensure solid connectivity for everyone at all times.

    Lastly, the fact that all network devices were configured ahead of time before installation meant the solution was deployed in a fraction of the time.
