Cardinal Newman Catholic School Enjoys a Rich Heritage and Bright Future - Hove, England

EnSky EWS360AP & EWS660AP: School prides itself on its advanced teaching facilities and fast, efficient, recently installed Wi-Fi network.

Cardinal Newman Catholic School was established in 1971 in Hove, East Sussex, England. The comprehensive school combined the student bodies of several surrounding schools, including De La Salle, Cottesmore Secondary Modern School, Lourdes Convent, Blessed Sacrament Convent, and the Fitzherbert School.

The school grounds cover about 35 acres that include a massive outdoor area to the north of the campus called the Hove Green.

The Need

Over the years, more teaching aids have been added to the Wi-Fi network causing the existing network solution to struggle coping with the increased demand placed upon it.

Students and staff were unable to take full advantage of the expensive networking devices the school invested in, nor could they add more equipment without an upgrade. The school also needed outdoor Wi-Fi to cover the extensive grounds where some areas are used for teaching.

“The EnGenius Wi-Fi was up and running in just one day… There were no problems, and it has performed exactly as we were told.”

Mike Smith

ICT Manager, Cardinal Newman Catholic School

The Solution

The school solicited proposals from several manufacturers with specific criteria for the Wi-Fi solution including seamless roaming throughout the school grounds and the ability to handle intensive usage by multiple devices in multiple classrooms.

In the end, the EnGenius WLAN solution fulfilled all criteria and offered the best price and performance to carry Cardinal Newman Catholic School into the future.

Specifically, the EWS360AP 11ac indoor access point and EWS660AP 11ac outdoor access point were used. Controller switches and free ezMaster network management software were also used to remotely monitor, manage, and troubleshoot the network, making centralized network management easy.

The solution afforded several key benefits:

  • • Affordable and enterprise level Wi-Fi solution
  • • Easy installation and set up
  • • Concise analytics
  • • Superior signal strength
  • • Free limited lifetime warranty
  • • Free firmware upgrades for life
  • • Free technical support

The Result

The installation was rolled out over the half-term holiday with a total of 93 access points (APs) installed. All the APs were pre-configured off-site, saving valuable time and ensuring the full EnGenius managed solution was up and running the same day.

ICT manager, Mike Smith, was impressed with the installation and steady performance of the new network. “The EnGenius Wi-Fi was up and running in just one day,” he said. “There were no problems, and it has performed exactly as we were told.”

“There has been a good cost saving to the school enabling us to buy more devices for students and staff,” he added.
